While I’m sure there are several authors out there writing about nanowrimo, I am no exception. Nanowrimo is the bread and butter for any writer. It’s a test of will and dedication. If an author is not willing or dedicated then they’ll never take the time to write the 50,000 words in one month. I believe they should do this every month, not just in November, but I, not unlike many others, slack off during the other months of the year. It seems to me like a right of passage for an author, like if I can do this I can do anything.
Now I will admit to only being signed up for this for the past three years, and failing miserably at the first two. But I am bound and determined more than ever before to get this done this year. …as they say “third times the charm,” I guess. I just know that once I am finally successful at this that I will feel better about myself, and a more confident writer. I do have some confidence when it comes to writing, but it is definitely shaky, especially these past couple years.
I went through a hardship over the past two years and found myself distracted rather than focusing on the task. This year my focus is finding my path as an author. Finding exactly where I need to be to make my dreams come true. This nanowrimo is certainly a turning point in my writing career rather than a flight of fancy as it has been in the past.
I am already a published author, but there is so much more I want to do. There are several more books in me and so many conventions and such I want to be a part of. I have let it slack and now I’m ready to get down to the nitty gritty. I have many plans for my future.
I know they say the powers that be scoff and laugh while we make plans, but every so often those plans come to fruition. Every so often fate smiles upon us and we’re able to accomplish the unthinkable. Now no matter whatever you believe in, if you believe in a higher power at all, there is something it would seem that either comes to our aid or hinders us in our endeavors. I myself believe in God, others believe in fate, karma, luck, mother nature, so on and so forth. Whatever you believe in or don’t believe it doesn’t matter, all that matters is you and how you handle each and every situation that comes across your path. Nanowrimo is no different. It can be a changing game, or another normal day. It can be something extremely serious, or something fun to do. Whatever you choose is what effects whether you will be successful at it or not. I am making a plan right now to write and succeed at nano. I challenge you to do the same.
If you choose to write each and every day, writing as much as you can you will most likely be successful. If you choose to do something other than write then you will most likely fail. I say fail, because that is the best word for it, but it’s not an actual failure if you don’t make the nano deadline. The only failure is never trying, never actually writing. If we want to make our dreams come true then we have to act and not sit idly by while our dreams turn to dust. This is as much a pep talk for me as much as for my readers. Let’s get pumped to do what we dream; let’s get out there and strive to make them come true. Never give up; never surrender!
I hope this got you fired up to write and make your dreams come true. It certainly helped me. 🙂 And a picture Michael Keaton going from Batman to Beetlejuice never hurts to inspire either.
Thank you and God bless my Jumpin Jillhosophet Journiers!
